March 6, 2023 Meeting – Growing Orchids on Windowsills During Winter & Outside In Summer

J oin us at the JCC in March for an -in person meeting! Our speaker will be the GROS’ own Natalie Auburn, whose windowsill orchid-growing prowess is the stuff of legend – and whose success (according to Natalie…) relies on her giving her orchids a summer”vacation” outdoors.

As we all know, those not having access to a greenhouse for year-round orchid culture must rely on some sort of indoor growing scheme – whether under lights or on windowsills – to keep their collections going. Natalie has pretty much enjoyed the best of both worlds, with her extensive bank of windows, supplemented by some LED lighting. Even more important, she pulls her orchids outdoors for the summer, giving them the advantages of natural sunlight and air movement to stimulate their growth. Natalie will be sharing tips on how to manage your plants through the seasons, based on many years of maintaining her indoor/outdoor arrangement.

THIS JUST IN: each member in attendance will receive one free raffle ticket. We will pull 10 winning tickets – each winner will get a $20 voucher to be used for either the Friday Night Awards Party and Reception, for purchases at any show vendor, or for payment of 2024 dues!

The doors open at the JCC at 6:00 p.m., and the meeting will get under way at 6:30 p.m., as usual. Don’t forget to bring in your flowering plants for the Show Table – We’ll see you there!

The March meeting will also feature discussion of many details pertaining to our upcoming Spring Show, which is set for March 30 – April 2, 2023.

• There will be sign-up sheets for different Show functions.
• Our Treasurer Sue Ackerman will be accepting checks for the Reception scheduled for Friday, March 31
• Members planning to sell plants at the Members Sales Table can pick up the necessary forms and stickers from Phil Matt.
