This year, we are introducing the concept of the "Apprentice." (Note that this has nothing to do with the reality T.V. show starring Donald Trump.) What it does have to do with is the reality of how to make our club better for everyone. Our goal is to encourage everyone to get involved in club activities. Many members seem to have what can be seen as "fear of volunteering." To counteract this, I have asked each club officer to find an "apprentice" to help with his or her duties. The apprentice will follow their "leader" around (well, at least figuratively...) and learns about what it takes to lead the activity from a " safe" distance. The apprentices will get to see what that activity is all about.
Hopefully, this will take away a little of that "fear of the unknown" that comes with volunteering to lead. The goal is to be able to draw volunteers next year from a larger pool of people who feel comfortable with the job they are accepting.
I encourage all members to volunteer to apprentice with one of our officers or committee chairpersons. You will notice from our officer and committee chair listing that we have several current openings. If you're interesting in volunteering for any of them, please call or see me at the next meeting.
